Where will the inverter and battery be installed?

They will usually be installed in the same room and close to the fuse box if this is an option, or the loft space or where ever is most safe and convenient to be installed

The inverter and the battery will usually be installed and connected in the same room and and close to the fuse box if this is an option, or the loft space or where ever is most safe and convenient to be installed, this is due to the fact that the maximum distance a battery and inverter can be apart is 1.5m. Please note that the room where the battery is installed needs to be suitable and to comply with any regulatory requirements and/or relevant manufacturer guidelines for ventilation, fire extinguishing, etc. Furthermore, the wall or surface where the battery is installed needs to be sufficiently dimensioned to carry the weight of the battery. Please note that structural reinforcements may be necessary in order to safely install the battery, and this may result in additional costs for the customer.

Recently British Standards Institution (BSI) issued new recommendations on home battery installations including installation in lofts, to come into effect on 31 March 2024 through the PAS 63100:2024. This PAS is not a regulation but a best practice guide and suggests batteries should be installed outside.

When following manufacturer guidelines loft installation is still available however for added precautions we suggest having a wired in fire detection system in any loft space. If wired in fire detection is not already available it is easily installed at the same time as PV installation or through your own electrician.
