Sell the electricity produced back to the grid following the application process explained in this article.
Any excess electricity that is produced by your PV panels above your consumption can be sold back to the grid. Your automatic electricity meter calculates the sum of production and consumption hour by hour. If you have produced more than you have used, you will be paid for this by your electricity company.
In order to do so you must first fill out a Smart Export Guarantee (“SEG”) application form. Download the form from your local electricity provider (e.g., British Gas, EDF Energy) website. Please note that as part of the application process you will need to submit the following information and documentation:
- Your MPAN number
- A copy of your Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) certificate; this comes to you directly from MCS about one month after your system is commissioned.
- Proof of connection to the grid (e.g., G83, G59 certificate)
- Proof of commissioning (e.g., commissioning certificate) - can be found in the handover pack provided to you at the end of the installation
- Proof of system ownership (e.g., your Otovo invoice) - can be found in the handover pack provided to you at the end of the installation
- Any other documents as required by the electricity provider
